Rain is bad.

Forgot to add the final product of that 2nd organizational line drawing in "one-point" perspective.
I tried to make it more transparent and really show the fact that I used a multitude of pencil types, since my last one got counted down for that.

It's been raining off an on since yesterday and I'll be damned if I head outside with my drawing pad and an umbrella hoping for the best. I'm counting on weather.com to be accurate so I can go do my outdoor one point tomorrow morning before class.

I really hope these turn out better than I'm thinking they will:

Shop Indie. Pass It On!

Shana Logic is a fabulous web store that features everything from apparel to jewelry to plush from a variety of artists. Being a particularly crafty person myself, I can totally appreciate the amount of time that goes into creating pieces like this. You really can't find such a good price on quality handmade goods anywhere else.

After over a year of drooling over the great products on the site, I finally made my first purchase about two weeks ago. I got this necklace: http://shanalogic.com/item.php?item_id=1942&category_id=131

Seriously guys, go there.

Epic Fail

So today in Intro to ComDes we were towards the end of class, and Ligon was showing us different images of which we had to point out different principles of Gestalt (i.e. proximity, repetition, closure...) and tell how they were used in the image.

I have a terrible habit of falling into some half-asleep realm of exitstence during any form of a lecture course. If I'm not actively participating in something, I am drifting off. It's a fact. I try my hardest to keep my eyes open, but at some point and blink and my eyes just stay closed.

Near the end of the images shown, I finally managed to submit to the to the darkness, and it was at this moment that Ligon leaned forward and directed to me "And what do you see in this image?"

In my half awake stupor I looked up and saw this image:

"Flowers," I croaked out.

Nice one.

My severe lack of an attention span is going to make me hate the next two weeks.

Between my sketchbook and my class assignments, I'll be drawing somewhere around five, one-point perspective, organizational line drawings. I'm a little freaked because the one we did today in class is taking me forever, and I highly suspect I will be sick of these when I'm done. I spent the whole lab time plus 30 mins and still haven't finished blocking out all the shapes in my 2H. Here's what it looks like now:

Quite the masterpiece. Maybe if I weren't so insanely anal about drawings like this, it wouldn't be such a problem. There's a LOT of little shapes missing from this currently. I know it'll get better as it progresses, I just can't stand out-of-proportion cubes. O_O

I love my drawing class, but I will be SO happy when the mid-point portfolio review gets here.

Design One couldn't have been more cruel in regard to our current assignment. We had to make up words describing Obama and McCain, and use the words to make designs. I really hate politics. I'll vote, but I'll be damned if I have to discuss the business with anyone. You should see my thumbnails; they're a riot. The "connectivity" ones aren't too shabby, but when you're limited to asymmetrical or radial designs, it becomes trying to come up with anything for "traditional/conformity."

Organizational Line

I just finished the organizational line piece earlier today; I touched up the lighter lines with my 4B and 6B pencils - all my other work was done in class on Tuesday. I'm not super proud of this one. It turned out being a lot less painstaking than I had expected, but now that it's done, I can see obvious errors in the overall composition, especially pertaining to my angles and overall point of view. I'm curious to see what other students will have to put up during critique tomorrow.

I still need to my sketchbook portion of this assignment tonight. Here's to Bruce Hall Insomniac, which, by the way, is really crappy coffee, but it's free!

Last night I also worked on a sketch seeing as I'll have to turn in my sketchbook in a week or two for the mid-semester portfolio review for Drawing I. It took my about 40 minutes or so, I'm quite happy with it. I thought I'd be pretty horrible at hands, but this is a pretty good representation of my little hands! Ha.

Note to the wise: fixative is a must. For serious, all my old drawings from the one art class I took my senior year are ruined because the pages rubbed together. So far it's working fabulously, the hand has remained intact. ^_^

Kay guys, here goes.

So I've kinda felt compelled to start a blog for a while now. Not that I'm really expecting to have readers or anything, it's more a me thing. I completely love being able to go back and relive a time in my life. I've got my livejournal, for example, that's kept mostly private. I write in it during times of particular crisis or joy. It's good to go back and be able to see my thought pattern exactly as it was so long ago. I have a terrible memory to be quite honest, so dated, written entries are a good way for me to timeline my life. As I am partway through my first semester as a Communication Design hopeful, I'm going to do my best to keep up this thing, in hopes of applying some sort of chronological sense to the insanity that is my life. I also really enjoyed being able to see the blogs of other art and design students. It let me know what to expect, even if I didn't believe that's how college was really going to be; although, I'll let you know now, this is how it is.

And so we begin, the life as a first semester college student just trying to get through the new instated December portfolio review...
